Marawi Port’s rehabilitation is now 70% done, with the project’s first phase slated for completion in early 2024, according to the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA).

Full completion is expected by October 2024.

The Marawi Port redevelopment includes construction of a 9,250-square meter backup area, a 264.5-sqm single-story passenger terminal building, a 357-sqm fishport shed, and a fastcraft berth and ramp.

The port in Lanao Del Sur was severely damaged in the 2017 Marawi siege.

Mamsar Construction and Industrial Corp. secured the project in 2021 with a budget of P242.750 million

Task Force Bangon Marawi, an inter-agency group established in 2017 to lead recovery efforts in Marawi City, assigned PPA with the port’s revival, drawing funding from the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management’s 2019 budget.

Originally set for completion in December 2022, delays occurred during project execution. PPA proposed a key change to incorporate a 17-meter access road from the port to the mosque. The modification led to a temporary suspension, extending the project’s timeline. Notably, the revision did not affect funding for the civil works, and PPA proceeded with the agreed-upon changes.

Recognizing the city’s reliance on fishing, PPA said the access road aims to improve connectivity for Maranao fisherfolks to local markets, subsequently enhancing economic conditions for residents displaced during the siege.
