The Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) is deploying 15 trucks with reefer vans as part of its isDA On The Go (iOTG) project that aims to transport low-cost fresh-frozen fishery products to consumers.

The iOTG is PFDA’s flagship corporate social responsibility project and is part of the agency’s expansion project to extend delivery of adequate fishery products nationwide through the agency’s regional fish ports. PFDA conducted a blessing for the iOTG trucks on July 16 at the PFDA grounds atthe Navotas Fish Port Complex.

“The main objective of the iOTG project is to distribute affordable fish in Metro Manila and other deficit areas and ensure sufficiency of fish supply in these areas. We are encouraging everyone to work as one in this effort to enhance the operations of iOTG,” acting assistant general manager Iris de Vera said in a statement.

Each insulated truck can carry a net weight of 1.6 tons of fish and is equipped with state-of-the-art devices, including a high-powered cooling system, emergency button, and reverse camera, to ensure the quality of the products and the safety of the delivery team.

Besides the reefer trucks, PFDA also acquired chest freezers.

A separate project under the Department of Transportation(DOTr), the Palamigan ng Bayan program, provides farming and fishing communities access to refrigerated container vans or reefer containers that will serve as cold storage facilities.

Last March, DOTr, the Department of Agriculture, and Department of Energy signed a memorandum of agreement to strengthen and expand the implementation of the Palamigan ng Bayan program for the agri-fishery sector in strategic areas nationwide.
