GOTHONG SOUTHERN Shipping Lines Inc. (GS), a domestic freight liner based in Cebu, Philippines, has acquired four brand-new, heavy-duty tractor heads, each one capable of towing up to 57 tons of containerized cargo.

The new acquisitions will be deployed in Manila and Cagayan de Oro, the company said.

“Gothong Southern offers safe and reliable transport services of containerized cargoes. We are excited to add these four brand-new Foton ETX420 tractor head 6X4 to our fleet of tractors to supplement our shipping business,” said Rex Yuvienco, GS vice president who is based in Manila.

“We have seen a steady increase in our door-to-door service, hence, it was imperative that we beef up our capacity to consistently meet the demands of our customers,” he said.

The new tractors will be fully fitted with modern GPS devices to monitor and track the progress of vehicle activities, which will ultimately translate to better servicing of customer needs.

Three of these tractors will be used to support GS’s Manila operations, while the fourth will be assigned in Cagayan de Oro.

The company said the latest batch of tractors is considered to be the most suitable for its use and requirements.

GS, one of the newer cargo liners in the domestic arena, traces its roots to one of the Philippines’ oldest shipping companies, the Carlos A. Gothong Lines. Today, after only seven years of operations, GS is consistently rated as one of the safest and most reliable cargo liners that sails out of Manila to Cebu, Cagayan de Oro and Tacloban.
