Customs screens more potential recruits for 9 ports

ID-10095437The Bureau of Customs (BOC) will be screening 284 applicants for vacant posts in nine customs ports to beef up its manpower this year.

The country’s second largest revenue-generating agency is looking for supervisory and non-supervisory personnel for the Manila International Container Port, Port of Manila, Ninoy Aquino International Airport, as well as the ports in Batangas, Clark, San Fernando, Limay, Legaspi, and Aparri.

The screenings are scheduled from January 12 to 15, but vary per port.

BOC on January 8 screened 21 applicants vying for the positions of division chiefs/collectors IV and division chiefs/collectors V. Some of the applicants have started working at the agency.

Late last year, BOC conducted interviews for applicants to supervisory and non-supervisory roles for different divisions: Internal Administration Group, Intelligence Group, Enforcement Group, Assessment and Operations Coordinating Group, and Management Information System and Technology Group.

Last year, BOC opened 1,056 job vacancies for the first- and second-level positions at different offices across the country. BOC said that by filling up these positions they will be able to “provide faster and better standard of service for importers, exporters, and the public dealing with Customs.”

BOC said there are only 3,600 Customs employees tasked to accomplish “a lot of mandates,” including going through more than 3,000 entries filed daily and over 6,000 individual items in 4,000 containers that arrive in the country each day. – Roumina Pablo
