The Manila-Cavite Expressway (Cavitex) C5 Link project will embark on a girder launching activity from September 15 to 25.

As a result, counterflow schemes will be activated between 10 pm and 4 am at the Parañaque toll plaza: September 15-19, for the Manila-bound traffic, and September 19-25, for the Cavite-bound traffic, Cavitex Infrastructure Corp (CIC) said in a statement. CIC is the Cavitex concessionaire.

The counterflow lanes are being adopted to lessen the expected traffic congestion associated with the girder launch for the Cavitex C5 Link Segment 2 R-1 Interchange project.

A girder launcher is a special-purpose mobile gantry crane used in bridge construction, specifically segmental bridges that use precast box girder bridge segments or precast girders in highway and high-speed rail bridge construction projects, according to Wikipedia.

The R-1 Interchange is a 1.9-kilometer segment (Segment 2) of the Cavitex C5 Link project, which in turn is a 7.7-kilometer, 2-by-3 lane expressway set to connect Cavitex R-1 to C5 Road in Taguig.

Cavitex C5 Link Segment 2 is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2024, said CIC president and general manager Raul Ignacio.

“[It] will help cut travel time to Sucat Road from Cavitex (Coastal Road) and vice versa by ten minutes, making daily commutes more efficient and seamless for our motorists,” he added in a statement.

Once Cavitex C5 Link is fully complete, it will serve over 50,000 vehicles daily, cutting travel times to and from Makati and Taguig from Parañaque City, Las Piñas City, and Cavite province, easing traffic congestion within Metro Manila.

CIC is a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corp (MPTC), a mobility infrastructure and solutions provider in the Philippines, and a toll road development arm of Metro Pacific Investments Corp.

MPTC also operates the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX), the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), the Subic-Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), the NLEX Connector Road, and the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) in Cebu through concession agreements.
