DHL Supply Chain has appointed its Latin American division chief Javier Bilbao new CEO at DHL Supply Chain Asia Pacific to succeed incumbent chief executive Terry Ryan, who retires after serving DHL Group for the past 40 years.

Ryan, who has been CEO of DHL Supply Chain Asia Pacific for the last seven years, will be replaced by Bilbao, CEO of DHL Supply Chain Latin America, starting on September 1, 2023.

The change in regional management was announced on August 21 by the Singapore regional headquarters of the contract logistics arm of Deutsche Post DHL Group.

Under Ryan’s leadership, DHL Supply Chain has achieved significant profitable business growth across almost all its markets in Asia Pacific, tripling its size over the last seven years.

He has also strengthened the business in Asia Pacific through strategic deals, including the acquisitions of Total Logistics Company (TLC) and Glen Cameron Group. Ryan also launched the transport-focused joint venture, DHL Summit Solutions Inc., in the Philippines.

Bilkbao, the new CEO at DHL Supply Chain Asia Pacific, said he is looking forward to the new challenge and to build on the strong foundation laid by Ryan during his term.

“We will certainly continue to deliver the best-of-class services for our customers, push our accelerated digitalization program and continue to climb the ranks of being a Great Place to Work,” said Bilbao, who sees many similarities between Asia Pacific and Latin America, with both regions being very diverse in culture and in the work they do for customers.

“Asia Pacific is a very exciting region, and it is a region that will lead the global economic growth this year. I am very excited to work with the team to tap into these opportunities and grow the business even more,” said Bilbao.

Bilbao started his career at the DHL Group in 2000 in the United Kingdom. He has held various management positions over the years and gained extensive operational experience in diverse areas of the supply chain business.

Since 2017, he has been CEO of DHL Supply Chain Latin America and a member of the division’s global board. Under his leadership, the Latin America operation has consolidated its position as a key contributing region in DHL Supply Chain.

In July this year, Niki Frank assumed office as CEO of another DHL Group division, DHL Global Forwarding Asia Pacific. He succeeded Kelvin Leung, who retired from the DHL Group after more than 20 years of service.
