Construction of the 1.84-kilometer (km) North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Connector Road Section 2 is now 66.64% complete, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

A 1.84-kilometer four-lane road is already finished, including the on and off ramp at España Boulevard. Civil works for the entry and exit ramps at Magsaysay Boulevard are being fast-tracked for opening by the end of the year, the DPWH said in a statement.

Once completed, the NLEX Connector Road Section 2 will link the España Boulevard interchange to the end of Manila Skyway Stage 3 at Polytechnic University of the Philippines in Sta. Mesa.

The 8-kilometer stretch, running from the end of NLEX Segment 10 at Circumferential Road 3 (C-3) in Caloocan to the end of Manila Skyway Stage 3 at PUP Sta. Mesa, is a joint project between DPWH and NLEX Corp, operating under a public-private partnership scheme.

“With construction activities on track for the final section, around 35,000 mixed vehicular traffic including heavy vehicles traveling per day from SLEX (South Luzon Expressway) to NLEX will soon enjoy reduced logistical costs brought by shorter travel time from the current two hours to just 20 minutes,” Public Works undersecretary Catalina Cabral said.

The P23.2 billion NLEX Connector is an all-elevated toll road divided into two sections, Sections 1 and 2.

Section 1 currently serves around 14,000 motorists daily, with NLEX Corp. initiating toll collection for this section on August 8.
