NLEX Corp. is ramping up completion of the next three-kilometer (km) section of NLEX Connector from España to Sta. Mesa, Manila.

Construction of the Sta. Mesa section is currently at 46%, NLEX Corp. said in a statement.

The Sta. Mesa section, one of the two sections of NELX Connector, traverses España Boulevard to R. Magsaysay Boulevard, up to the vicinity of Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) in Sta. Mesa, Manila. The latter features on and off ramps in Magsaysay and Sta. Mesa.

The 5-km Caloocan-España section, which runs from the Caloocan Interchange on C3 Road and España Boulevard, was inaugurated on March 27 and opened on March 29.

READ: NLEX Connector toll-free for limited time

NLEX Corp. said since it started operations, the Caloocan-España section, which is currently toll-free for a limited time, has been used by more than 80,000 motorists.

This section has reduced travel time between C3 Road in Caloocan City and España in Manila from 30 to just five minutes. It also provides motorists with an alternative route, contributing to the ease of movement of people and goods from north to south, and vice versa NLEX Corp. said. The new tollway is also expected to open more business opportunities in the areas it traverses.

NLEX Corp. president J. Luigi L. Bautista is pleased with the testimonials of the public on social media and news reports on the benefits of the new expressway.

“The comments we received from the motorists only prove that indeed NLEX Connector has been serving its purpose of increasing productivity as it helps ease the travel of motorists and commuters,” he said.

Bautista said that with the opening of the first section of the NLEX Connector, it has become more possible for people residing north of Metro Manila to commute to study or work in the metropolis, adding that the company continues to collaborate with relevant agencies to further enhance traffic management and policies on nearby local roads of the NLEX Connector.

“The Metro Manila Council as well as the local governments of Manila and Caloocan have been supportive of our initiatives to alleviate the traffic in and out of the expressway system. We continue to work together to improve congested roads,” Bautista said.

The entire NLEX Connector stretches 8 km starting from Caloocan Interchange on C3 Road up to the vicinity of PUP in Sta. Mesa.

When completed, the P23.2 billion road project is seen to greatly reduce travel time from South Luzon Expressway (SLEX)-Alabang to NLEX-Balintawak from two hours to just 20 minutes.
