The newly improved Vigan Airport is set to be inaugurated on May 25 by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).

The newly-completed development projects at Vigan Airport in Ilocos Sur include the expansion and improvement of the passenger terminal building, construction of the administrative building, a powerhouse, and the provision of runway features.

Ongoing projects include construction of water tanks, vehicular parking area, cyclone wire perimeter fence, and a runway drainage system.

Once in operation, Vigan Airport can accommodate 150 passengers at any given time, three times more than its present capacity of 40 passengers, DOTr and CAAP said in a statement.

Vigan Airport forms part of a total of 248 airport projects that DOTr and CAAP have completed since 2016.

The improvements in Vigan Airport are expected to bring economic development, tourism growth, and job opportunities in the province, while addressing Ilocos Sur’s connectivity and mobility needs.
