Malaysia will bar a Russian oil tanker on a US blacklist from docking at any of its ports in coming days, as it did not want to breach Washington’s sanctions over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, media reports said.

There is no official confirmation of the report that the Linda, which is now on the Indian Ocean, will be barred from docking at Malaysia’s Kuala Linggi International Port.

Shipping news provider S&P Global Commodity Insights said in a report that a Malaysian executive of the tanker’s owners did confirm the news.

However, an official of the Marine Department of Malaysia was quoted by S&P Global as saying satellite tracking data so far had not seen the vessel in the region.

“Maybe they have switched off its vessel tracking system. It will not be allowed in and will have to stay outside our port limits,” the official said.

BernaNews reported that the Ministry of Transportation said in a statement it would inform the port operator of Kuala Linggi of its decision to decline the vessel’s request to dock there.

The Linda is due to arrive at Kuala Linggi port on Saturday, March 5, the MOT statement reportedly said.
