The Bureau of Customs (BOC) Enforcement and Security Service and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) inaugurated on March 30 the first BOC K-9 barracks, a facility designed to house 12 anti-narcotics sniffing dogs and their handlers that are deployed at Manila international terminals.

The facility, located in warehouse 159 at Manila South Harbor, Port Area, Manila, also has storage space for the vehicles and equipment needed by the PDEA K-9 unit deployed at the Port of Manila and the Manila International Container Port.

BOC Internal Administration Group deputy commissioner Donato San Juan said in a statement that with the facility, the K-9 units will now have a rest area in between deployment.

San Juan said all BOC ports nationwide will also have similar facilities in the near future.

PDEA deputy director general for administration Randy Pedroso, for his part, assured BOC of PDEA’s continued support and thanked the agency for providing accommodation to PDEA personnel.
