International air freight forwarders in PH lift 17% less cargo in 2023

  • International air freight forwarders handled 302.140 million kilograms of cargo in 2023, down 17% year-on-year
  • Nippon Express Philippines remained the lead forwarder with 44.78 million kg or 14.82% lifted in 2023
  • Direct shipments, consolidations, and breakbulking all declined in 2023
  • Domestic air freight forwarders handled 15.8% more air cargo in 2023 to 56.914 million kg

International air freight forwarders in the Philippines handled 17% less cargo in 2023 to 302.140 million kilograms from 364.235 million kg in 2022, according to preliminary data from the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB).

CAB-Planning and Research Division noted that only 90.93% of accredited international air freight forwarders submitted complete data for 2023, down from 92.19% for 2022.

Consolidations, which accounted for 43.29% of the total, declined 18% to 130.806 million kg from 159.443 million kg in 2022.

Breakbulking, 39% of the total, was likewise down 16% to 118.091 million kg from 140.875 million kg.

Direct shipments sank 16.7% to 53.243 million kg from 2022’s 63.918 million kg.

Once again, Nippon Express Philippines Corp. topped CAB’s list of top 30 international airfreight forwarders, handling the biggest share at 14.82% in 2023 with 44.78 million kg.

As in 2022, Federal Express Pacific, Inc. remained in second place with a share of 7.12% or 21.515 million kg.

U-Freight Phils., Inc. switched ranks with Schenker Philippines, Inc. to take third place with 17.849 million kg or a share of 5.91%.

Schenker is now in fourth place with 16.948 million kg or a share of 5.61%.

Kintetsu World Express (Phils.), Inc. and DSV Air & Sea, Inc. also switched places, with the former now at fifth place with 14.010 million kg or a 4.64% share, and the latter at sixth with 13.628 million kg or a share of 4.51%.

Yusen Logistics Philippines, Inc. improved one place to seventh with 12.993 million or 4.3%, while Kuehne + Nagel Inc. likewise jumped one place to eight with 12.145 million kg or 4.02% share.

Sister companies DHL Global Forwarding (Phils.), Inc. and DHL Express (Phils.) Corp. are in ninth and 10th place, respectively. DHL Global Forwarding ranked one place higher in 2023 with 10.211 million or a share of 3.38% while DHL Express dropped three places with 10.182 million or 3.37% share.

From 11th to 30th places were the following air freight forwarders:

  • AAI Worldwide Logistics Inc., 3.283 million kg
  • World Alliance Freight, Inc., 3.141 million kg
  • Dimerco Express Phils, Inc., 3.102 million kg
  • NNR Global Logistics (Phils) Inc., 3.018 million kg
  • TYCS Logistics International Inc., 2.864 million kg
  • Sincerity International Cargo Services Corp., 2.775 million kg
  • Kornet Express, Inc., 2.665 million kg
  • Morrison Express Philippines Inc., 2.081 million kg
  • Royal Cargo Inc., 2.046 million kg
