  • The new office follows the creation of subports of Currimao and Irene in northern Luzon

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) unveiled the new subport of Laoag on August 8.

Located within the Laoag International Airport (LIA), the new office is part of BOC’s goal toward streamlined and client-centered services, the agency said in a statement.

The project is aligned with the bureau’s plans for improving the efficiency and accessibility of its offices, it added.

The inauguration ceremony was led by Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio and joined by Ilocos Norte Governor Matthew Joseph Marcos-Manotoc.

The subport, under the jurisdiction of the Port of Aparri — will enhance services of the bureau within the region, BOC said.

The establishment of the subport comes after the inauguration of the additional subports of Currimao (Aug. 8, 2022) and Irene (Feb. 16, 2023).

“Apart from expanding our operations to this location in furtherance of bolstering economic growth in the region, we likewise aim to provide a comfortable environment and secure workplace for our customs officers,” Rubio said.

Port of Aparri acting district collector Elenita Abaño for her part said she was pleased that “…from previously being situated in a town house three kilometers from the airport… the Sub-Port of Laoag already has an office within the airport.”

Apayao Governor Elias C. Bulut, Jr., Ilocos Norte Vice-governor Cecilia Araneta-Marcos, Batac City Mayor Albert D. Chua, Currimao Municipal Mayor Edward Quilala were also present in the ceremony along with representatives from various agencies and private sector.

Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines manager of LIA Ronald V. Estabillo, Reden Velarde, Wyne Marc Rigonan, Jaime Clave, Atty. Carol Lonjawon, Dr. Zaldy Olivas, Julius Imperio, Karol Pascual, and Sarah Santos also joined the activity.
