A total of 400 bales of used clothing or ukay-ukay worth an estimated market value of P3.2 million were seized by the Bureau of Customs (BOC)-Manila International Container Port (MICP) during an inspection of a storage facility in Malibay, Pasay City.

The discovery was made on March 24 by the composite team of BOC-MICP Enforcement and Security Service, Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service, and Philippine Coast Guard armed with a Letter of Authority from the Customs commissioner, BOC said in a statement.

Further investigation and inventory are already being conducted for possible filing of cases against the yet-to-be-determined owner of the items for violation of Section 1400 (Misdeclaration) of Republic Act (RA) 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

The March 24 apprehension is the second seizure of BOC-MICP for this week, following the March 23 apprehension of P48 million worth of smuggled cigarettes from China that were misdeclared as cartons, bicycles, and folding tables.
