The Bureau of Customs (BOC) Port of Subic seized another batch of smuggled agricultural products worth P37 million on December 21, 2021.

As a result of profiling of shipments with similar declarations and suspected of containing misdeclared or undeclared agricultural products, BOC-Subic district collector Maritess Martin ordered pre-lodgment control orders issued against 19 containers consigned to EMV Consumer Goods Trading and JKJ International Co.

Nine 40-foot containers consigned to EMV Consumer Goods and declared as 4,050 packages of “anti-bacterial wet wipes” actually contained refined sugar.

Ten 40-foot containers consigned to JKJ International and declared as “mantou” and “egg tarts” yielded fresh red onions with an estimated market value of P25.8 million.

BOC last November 18 also seized smuggled agricultural products worth an estimated P66 million and consigned to EMV Consumer Goods and JKJ International. Containers of smuggled red onions consigned to EMV Consumer Goods were likewise seized by BOC-Cagayan de Oro in November.

Warrants of seizure and detention (WSD) were issued against shipments consigned to JKJ International for violation of Department of Agriculture Administrative Order No. 18 series of 2000 and DA Department Circular No. 4 series of 2016 in relation to Section 1113 (Property Subject to Seizure and Forfeiture) of Republic Act No. 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

WSD were issued against shipments consigned to EMV Consumer Goods Trading for violation of the Sugar Regulatory Administration and BOC Joint Memorandum Order No. 04-2004, in relation to Section 1113 of the CMTA.
