The Bureau of Customs (BOC)-Port of Clark seized P56 million worth of shabu, the port’s largest illegal drug haul for 2023.

A consignee was also arrested during a controlled delivery operation in Cavite on December 19, BOC said in a statement.

The illegal drugs, totaling 8,126 grams, arrived from California on December 17 and were falsely declared as “dry food,” concealed in eight brown plastic bags. Acting on derogatory information, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) subjected the shipment to x-ray screening and K9 inspection for illegal substances.

Following a physical examination, PDEA’s chemical laboratory confirmed the presence of methamphetamine hydrochloride or “shabu,” an illegal substance listed under Republic Act (RA) No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

BOC-Clark, in collaboration with PDEA, Customs Anti-Illegal Drug Task Force (CAIDTF), X-ray Inspection Project (XIP), Enforcement and Security Service (ESS), and Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS), led the operation resulting in the confiscation of the illegal drugs.

The consignee was a male claimant who was arrested by Customs and PDEA agents during a controlled delivery operation in Cavite.

District Collector Erastus Sandino Austria issued a warrant of seizure and detention against the shipment for violating RA 10863, or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act, in relation to RA 9165.

“This arrest only shows that we are steadfast and firm in our efforts to protect the health of our people against the harmful effects of the illicit trade of drugs in the country,” BOC Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio said.
