The Bureau of Customs-Port of Clark intercepted an attempt to export P7.507 million worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride (locally known as shabu), BOC said in a statement.

The shipment was bound for New Zealand on January 3, 2024 and originated from Parañaque City. It was initially tagged as suspicious by the X-ray Inspection Project personnel under BOC.

The shipment immediately underwent K9 sniffing and physical examination, which led to the discovery of three packs of shabu weighing 1,104 grams concealed in a shaft drive.

The chemical laboratory analysis from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency confirmed the seized contraband was shabu, listed as a prohibited drug under Republic Act (RA) No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

BOC-Clark District Collector Erastus Sandino Austria issued a warrant of seizure and detention against the shipment for violation of RA 10863, or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act, in relation to RA 9165.

He commended Port of Clark personnel for stopping the exportation of illegal substances and highlighted the port’s commitment to “maintain stringent customs controls and vigilant law enforcement to combat illegal drug trafficking.”

In a statement, BOC commissioner Bienvenido Rubio said the agency will “ensure that intensified security measures are put in place as part of the Bureau’s continuing enhanced anti-illegal drug smuggling campaign.”
