The Bureau of Customs-Port of Clark discovered four live bearded dragons inside a shipment declared as “Tupperware” from Malaysia.

The shipment arrived on January 27, 2022 and was x-rayed, revealing suspicious images, the bureau said in a statement.

A physical examination found two female and two male live bearded dragons in plastic containers.

BOC said the misdeclared reptiles were imported without the Sanitary and Phytosanitary Certificate and Veterinary Health Certificate from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in violation of Section 118 (g), 119 (f), 1113 (l, j) and 1400 of R.A. No. 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA) and RA No. 9147 (Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act).

The reptiles were turned over to DENR for rehabilitation and care on January 27.

District collector Alexandra Lumontad said the Port of Clark will remain consistent in protecting borders against the importation of smuggled wildlife to prevent illegal wildlife trade in the country from proliferating.
