Starting August 8, NLEX Corp. will collect toll for the first section of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Connector.

This is after the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) authorized the expressway operator to collect the fractional opening base toll rates for Section 1 of the NLEX Connector. Section 1, the five-kilometer Caloocan-España section that runs from the Caloocan Interchange on C3 Road and España Boulevard, was inaugurated on March 27 and opened to motorists toll-free on March 29.

TRB in a statement said it has provisionally approved the following toll fees for collection:

  • Class 1: P86
  • Class 2: P215
  • Class 3: P302

TRB noted the new toll road will be the first to implement a 24/7 barrier-free Electronic Toll Collection System. Motorists just need to slow down for safety but need not stop at the toll plaza, resulting in a faster and more convenient travel, TRB said.

TRB is encouraging expressway users to use radio frequency identification (RFID) not only at the NLEX Connector, but on all the other expressways.

NLEX Connector is an all-elevated toll road project with a total length of approximately 8 km, divided into two sections. Section 2 is from España, Manila to Skyway Stage 3 with an approximate length of 3 km for completion within the fourth quarter of this year.

Section 1 is currently used by around 14,000 motorists daily.

When completed, the P23.2 billion NLEX Connector road project is seen to greatly reduce travel time from South Luzon Expressway-Alabang to NLEX-Balintawak from two hours to just 20 minutes.
