SPX Express has unveiled its largest automated sorting center in Southeast Asia located in Calamba, Laguna. The center is designed to handle over three million parcels daily.
The 25,000-sqm facility is a fully automated sorting hub, equipped with advanced machinery for efficient scanning and automatic sorting based on destinations, according to Martin Yu, SPX Express head.
The Calamba center boasts of automation with smart cameras swiftly processing parcels and airway bills and minimizing delays, Yu added.
The automated system is anticipated to significantly accelerate the delivery process. Small parcels spend minimal time at the facility before being efficiently sorted and dispatched to delivery vans, while larger packages can be processed within an hour, according to the logistics company.
While the investment details for the new Calamba center remain undisclosed, Yu shared potential expansion plans, envisioning more large sorting centers to supplement their existing network of 300 hubs across the country.
He noted the impact of e-commerce growth on the delivery and courier sector, emphasizing the increasing demand for faster parcel deliveries.
Calamba Mayor Roseller Rizal, who was present during the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the sorting center, welcomed its opening, foreseeing positive outcomes for local small businesses and job creation.
He emphasized the facility’s role in enhancing product accessibility and efficiency for consumers and businesses in Calamba City.
