The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) is inviting bids for the expansion of the Sorsogon Roll-on/Roll-off (Ro-Ro) Terminal at Matnog port, Sorsogon.

The project, budgeted at P489 million, covers removal, excavation, and the construction of a port operational area along with a continuous ro-ro ramp.

The Sorsogon Ro-Ro Terminal Expansion Project aims to address the imbalance between Sorsogon and Samar ports. Matnog port in Sorsogon, with eight ramps, faces persistent congestion and truck queues, particularly during holidays.

Transportation assistant secretary for maritime Atty. Julius Yano earlier highlighted the terminal’s crucial role as a backbone for passenger and cargo transport between Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

He emphasized that developing the port aligns with the National Logistics Strategy and President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.’s vision of making the Philippines a logistics hub in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

Yano earlier said the project includes a continuous ramp that will be able to accommodate 5 to 6 vessels simultaneously and a backup area that will support the maximum efficiency of the ro-ro ramps for increased maneuverability and queuing efficiency.

The timeline for project completion is 660 calendar days from the notice to proceed.
