PEZA to launch special projects, award top locators

The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) is launching nine special projects, including its electronic payment and collection system, and recognizing top locators on November 25.

The special projects, which are part of PEZA’s transformation roadmap, will be launched during the agency’s annual Investors’ Recognition Day on November 25.

PEZA will launch its new logo and flag inspired by the “thinking global, acting local” worldview.

It will also introduce its latest and modified agency website and show a glimpse of its electronic payment and collection system.

In line with this automation program, PEZA last February 18 signed a memorandum of agreement with I-PAY MYEG PH (IPMPI), an online payment gateway provider that operates and maintains an Electronic Payment Collection System (EPCS) and can integrate with PEZA’s online portal.

The EPCS enables clients to remit payments through various channels such as ATM accounts, credit cards, mobile wallets, and over-the-counter facilities.

PEZA earlier said it would adopt technologies and explore digital platforms “to improve good governance, transparency, ease of doing business, and accountability.”

In addition, PEZA will unveil the Innovator Man Statue, which will represent the agency’s continuous innovations for 26 years and beyond, and its strategic adaptation in a fast-paced environment.

PEZA director general Charito Plaza will deliver her “State of the PEZA Address” and provide updates on the agency’s plans and programs, including the recent signing of the MOA and its implementing rules with the Bureau of Immigration to reduce processing and approval time of PEZA-visa issuance.

An update on the construction of the agency’s new 13-story office building on Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City will be given.

PEZA on November 23 also officially launched the first 1,000 hardcopies of its coffee table book entitled “Philippine Economic Zones: An Investment Haven in Asia. Galing Pinas, Galing Pinas!”

During the investors’ recognition day, PEZA will grant 58 export-oriented companies with awards under the following categories: Outstanding Exporter, Outstanding Employer, Outstanding Community Projects, Outstanding Environmental Performance, COVID-19 Response Award, Galing Pinas! Award, Hall of Fame Award, and Billionaires Award.

The Outstanding Exporter Award is given to a locator that has accomplished outstanding performance in exports, while the Outstanding Employer Award is awarded to companies that have generated the most jobs, held high regard for workers’ welfare, and maintained harmony between labor and management.

The Outstanding Community Project Award will be granted to locators or developers with a strong relationship with the community and meaningful corporate social responsibility projects.

Locators that have institutionalized their environmental management system, complied with environmental regulations, and fostered partnership between the government and the industry in caring for the environment will be awarded the Outstanding Environmental Performers Award.

The Hall of Fame Award, meanwhile, is awarded to three-time winners of the Outstanding Exporter, Outstanding Employer, Outstanding Community Project and Outstanding Environmental Performer Awards.

The Billionaires Award will go to a company that exports at least US$2.5 billion in any given year.

Further, the COVID-19 Response Award is bestowed to PEZA-registered enterprises and economic zone developer-operators that have successfully established COVID-19 policies and programs to in the workplace.
