Petron is top importer, Dole top exporter in 2023, says BOC

  • Mitsubishi Motors Philippines was recognized as the SGL member with the highest duties and taxes paid

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) recognized stakeholders that have contributed significantly to its revenue collection in 2023, with Petron Corp. and Dole Philippines Inc. emerging as the agency’s leading importer and exporter, respectively.

During its 122nd anniversary celebrations on February 13, the BOC awarded the top five importers recording the highest import value; top three contributors to post-clearance audit collections; top exporter with highest export value; top customs facility and warehouse/container freight station (CFW/CFS) in terms of duties and taxes collected; and top Super Green Lane (SGL) member with the highest duties and taxes paid.

Petroleum firms dominated the list of top importers:

  • Petron Corp. contributing P75 billion
  • Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. (P44 billion)
  • Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp. (P40 billion)
  • Unioil Petroleum Philippines, Inc. (P28 billion)
  • Seaoil Philippines Inc. (P25 billion)

The three leading contributors to post-clearance audit collections were:

  • JT International (Phils.) Inc. with P383 million
  • Anda Power Corp. with P375 million
  • Mercke Sharp and Dohme with P133 million

Dole Philippines Inc. was the number one exporter in terms of value.

OceanLink Container Terminal Inc. was the top accredited CFW/CFS in terms of collecting duties and taxes.

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines emerged as the SGL member which paid the highest duties and taxes.

Aside from private stakeholders, the BOC recognized various government agencies/units that helped the bureau in its border protection efforts which resulted in the seizure of P43 billion worth of smuggled goods and contrabands in 2023. These were the Armed Forces of the Philippines-Western Mindanao Command, Philippine Navy’s Naval Forces Western Mindanao, Naval Forces Southern Luzon, and Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao; and Philippine Army’s Army Intelligence Regiment.

In addition, the BOC recognized its 17 collection districts and various offices for their performance that helped achieve and surpass the agency’s collection target for 2023 and for pursuing its trade facilitation and border protection mandate.

The BOC collected P883.624 billion in 2023, surpassing by 1.08% its target of P874.166 billion and was 2.46% higher than the P862.419 billion recorded in 2022.

For the first month of the year, BOC has collected P73.329 billion, surpassing its P71.779 billion target by 2.16%.

For 2024, Customs commissioner Bienvenido Rubio committed to collecting P959 billion. – Roumina Pablo
