No leave policy in place at PPA ports
  • The Philippine Ports Authority is implementing a “no leave policy” to ensure full manpower for the expected influx of passengers during the Holy Week
  • The policy takes effect from April 3 to April 10 and covers 120 PPA ports nationwide
  • Passenger traffic during the Holy Week is expected to reach 2.2 million from 1.3 million in the same period last year

The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) is implementing a “no leave policy” to ensure full manpower for the expected influx of passengers during the Holy Week.

PPA general manager Jay Daniel Santiago in a memo said the policy will be effective from April 3 to April 10. It covers PPA’s 25 port management offices, including more than 120 ports nationwide.

“Our security personnel are on heightened alert and all the filed leaves of the PPA personnel in the frontline services have been canceled to ensure that the needs of passengers flocking at our ports during Holy Week are provided,” Santiago said.

Passenger traffic during this year’s Hoy Week is expected to reach more than 2.2 million compared to last year’s 1.3 million.

PPA recently inaugurated facilities at ports that cater to large numbers of passengers during peak season. These include Calapan port’s passenger terminal building (PTB), the country’s largest PTB to date; and the port operations buildings in Coron and Masbate ports.

“It is timely that we opened new facilities in Masbate, Coron and Calapan these past few weeks as (they are) intended to bring comfort for the passengers. All of them have new and improved restrooms, prayer rooms, breastfeeding areas and charging stations that are ready for usage of our travelers,” Santiago said.

PPA reminds passengers to plan their trip ahead and avoid last-minute bookings to avoid inconvenience and delays during the peak season.
