NLEX Corp. will embark on a series of major infrastructure projects and enhancements in 2024, including construction of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) C5-Link; completion of the Candaba 3rd Viaduct project; and expansion of NLEX San Fernando to Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) Spur, the toll operator said in a statement.

The NLEX C5-Link construction will begin in the second quarter of 2024. The project aims to alleviate daily traffic gridlock on Mindanao Avenue and integrate it into the future NLEX expansion, creating an interconnected tollway network.

The road capacity for NLEX San Fernando to SCTEX Spur will be expanded to 3×3 lanes from 2×2 lanes in each direction. Roadway lighting installation for added safety and expansion of the Angeles Interchange to accommodate increased vehicle volume in the area are part of the project, expected to commence in the second quarter of the year.

Scheduled for completion in November 2024, the Candaba 3rd Viaduct project will widen the viaduct to three lanes with inner and outer shoulders, connecting Pulilan, Bulacan, and Apalit, Pampanga.

NLEX Corp. also recently signed a memorandum of agreement for the construction of the Sto. Tomas Interchange between San Simon and San Fernando in Pampanga. The interchange will offer direct access to Santo Tomas and nearby towns, easing congestion and providing additional entry points.

As part of the traffic decongestion program, new infrastructure such as the F. Raymundo Exit in Brgy. Pandayan, NLEX Meycauayan northbound, and an additional lane at the Meycauayan northbound exit ramp have been opened to ease recurrent traffic in the area, especially during peak hours and holidays.

NLEX Corp. said it is committed to its heavy maintenance program, conducting comprehensive pavement maintenance and repair works annually to preserve road quality and ensure safe conditions.

System enhancement programs and major upgrades in traffic management systems are also in the pipeline, with the NLEX traffic control center set to undergo renovation this year. The center, operational 24/7, integrates technologies for traffic monitoring and communication to ensure prompt action for the safety and convenience of motorists.
