  • The portal-type x-ray machine can scan 160 containers per hour
  • The new addition raises to 13 the number of fully operational x-ray machines in ports under the jurisdiction of BOC-Davao

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has inaugurated a portal-type x-ray machine at Davao International Container Terminal (DICT), increasing the port’s maximum inspection capacity by an additional 3,480 containers per day.

The machine, inaugurated on January 12, can scan 160 containers per hour. Its portal design allows container trucks to move through the x-ray machine as opposed to a mobile x-ray design in which the machine moves along the length of the container. BOC also earlier installed a mobile x-ray machine at DICT.

BOC said the x-ray machine will increase border security capabilities of BOC collection district XII (BOC-Davao) and speed up clearance of sea freight cargoes.

Located in Panabo, Davao Del Sur, DICT handles foreign cargoes and is under the jurisdiction of BOC-Davao.

With the addition, BOC-Davao now has 13 fully operational x-ray machines in ports under its jurisdiction.

BOC has been augmenting its x-ray machines to increase its capability for non-intrusive inspection of containerized shipments.

In 2019, it said it was adding 50 new x-ray machines in various airports and seaports nationwide, including 15 fixed baggage x-ray machines, 25 hand-carried baggage x-ray machines, four mobile baggage x-ray machines, and six portal-type x-ray machines, altogether worth more than P1.2 billion.
