The Land Transportation Office (LTO) officially turned over the management and operations of its district and extension offices in Maguindanao and Marawi to the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC).

Also turned over on February 22 to MOTC were the Wao Extension Office in Lanao Del Sur and Datu Abdullah Sangki Extension Office in Maguindanao.

The transfer is pursuant to Republic Act No. 11054, also known as the Bangsamoro Organic Law, which states that all offices and premises belonging to BARMM should be turned over to Bangsamoro government.

“It is a great honor and it is a historic moment in the history of BARMM, noon pa ito, kaya lang may mga legal and technicalities involved hindi na-turn over. BASULTA and Cotabato City were turned over earlier,” MOTC Minister Atty. Paisalin Tago said in a statement.

MOTC earlier already took over LTO’s district offices in Jolo, Sulu, and Cotabato; and the extension office in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi.

Aside from LTO, the Department of Transportation on March 27, 2021 officially turned over its functions and assets to MOTC. Other transport agencies’ operations and offices have also transferred their functions and assets to their counterpart sectoral offices of MOTC since 2021.
