A joint government operation recently seized P3.998 million worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as “shabu”.

The package was shipped from Laos and declared as “electric steamer”.

Two claimants were arrested during controlled delivery operations jointly conducted by the Ninoy Aquino-International Airport, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), and NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group in Las Piñas City on April 28, BOC said in a statement.

A resident of Pasay City together with a Nigerian national were arrested after receiving the package at Marcos Alvarez Avenue corner Veraville Homes, Talon Singko, Las Piñas City.

The package was initially discovered by the BOC during x-ray scanning which yielded suspicious images. Subsequently, the package was subjected to 100% physical examination. The Customs examiner found 588 grams of white crystalline substances wrapped in aluminum foil concealed inside a baby bottle sterilizer and dryer.

Chemical test conducted by CAIDTF and PDEA confirmed the subject substance was shabu.

The claimants are presently undergoing custodial investigation and eventual inquest prosecution for violation of Republic Act No. 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) in relation to Sections 119 and 1401 in of RA 10863 also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

BOC and PDEA said they will continue to strengthen inter-agency cooperation and coordination to curb illegal drugs proliferation thru the country’s border.
