ICTSI Rio Brasil 1 has received the inaugural call of CMA CGM’s Brazil Express Loop 2 (BRAZEX 2) service, kicking off the newest partnership between the International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) subsidiary and the French shipping line.

The BRAZEX 2 service was formally launched at the Port of Rio de Janeiro with the arrival of the 2,284-TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) CMA CGM Malta on December 16, 2021.

Operated by a fleet of five ships, the service rotates through Jamaica’s capital port Kingston, Port of Spain in Trinidad, the Brazilian ports of Rio de Janeiro, Santos, Navegantes and Vila de Conde, and Caucedo in the Dominican Republic before heading back to Kingston.

“BRAZEX 2 offers optimized cargo routes to and from the Gulf, the Caribbean and the United States using the Port of Kingston in Jamaica as a transhipment hub. With the Port of Rio de Janeiro as the service’s first port of call in southeastern Brazil, our clients can take advantage of extremely competitive transit times for imports,” ICTSI Rio commercial director Eduardo Galo said in a statement.

ICTSI said that with weekly calls to the Port of Rio de Janeiro, BRAZEX 2 service consolidates ICTSI Rio’s leadership position in connecting Brazil to the rest of the Americas.

ICTSI Rio Brasil 1 operates Container Terminal 1 at the Port of Rio de Janeiro and serves the import, export, and industrial oil and gas hubs in the largest economic region of Brazil.
