Hkia_from_lantauHong Kong International Airport (HKIA) recorded a cargo traffic decline of 1% to 362,000 tonnes in May year-on-year, according to airport authorities.

Though transshipments grew by 6% in May, overall cargo volume fell, primarily due to a 4% year-on-year drop in imports and 2% decrease in exports. Traffic to and from key trading regions in North America registered the most significant drop during the month.

During the first five months of 2016, cargo traffic decreased by 2% to 1.7 million tonnes. On a rolling 12-month basis, HKIA saw cargo throughput slide by 1.3% to 4.34 million tonnes.

Indonesia launches airport contact center

In Indonesia, PT Angkasa Pura I (API I), the state-owned enterprise that manages several airports in the country, has launched a round-the-clock contact center number, 172, that will receive complaints, questions, or input from customers.

Angkasa Pura I is currently running 13 commercial airports in the central and eastern regions of the country and has introduced the service as a customer communication channel to AP I, said a news report from Antara News.

The customer service line may be accessed via telephone, mobile phone, email, Facebook, or Twitter.

The company said the contact center will be addressing and resolving questions and complaints from customers within 24 hours.

The service team, headquartered at Terminal 1 of the Juanda Airport in Surabaya, East Java, is operated by 20 employees who work 24 hours a day on alternate days.

The contact center has been operating on pilot mode since February 20, 2016, coinciding with the 52nd anniversary of AP I.

“Every day, there are at least 20 to 40 phone calls to our service line and callers generally ask about the flight schedule,” said the company.
