Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Ltd (Hactl) has been appointed by French aviation company CMA CGM Air Cargo to handle its new services to the city that began in early September, Hactl said in a press release on October 25.

The largest independent air cargo handler in Hong Kong welcomed the new deal with the cargo airline of CMA CGM Group, a global player in sea, land, air and logistics solutions.

“We are honored that they (CMA CGM) are entrusting their important new service to our care, and look forward to supporting them with comprehensive, efficient and resilient ground handling services,” Hactl chief executive Wilson Kwong said.

CMA CGM Air Cargo has added 5 scheduled flights per week from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport to Hong Kong, joining its existing services to the United States. The new Hong Kong services are being operated with brand-new Boeing 777F aircraft.

Under the new partnership, Hactl will handle HK cargo flights by the carrier, including terminal and ramp handling, as well as documentation services.

Capacity on the flights is being marketed by the cargo carrier with the support of GSSA ECS Group.

Kwong said Hactl is delighted to welcome CMA CGM Air Cargo to the carrier family that the air freight handler is servicing at its base at the Hong Kong International Airport in Chek Lap Kok.

CMA CGM diversified into air cargo service via a 10-year partnership firmed up in May 2020 with Air France-KLM to take on airfreight business on the partner’s freighters displaying its trademark.

Hactl is one of the world’s leading air cargo terminals with unique world-class facilities, highly efficient operation, and innovative technology. The company says it services more than 100 cargo airlines and more than 1,000 freight forwarders.

The company’s SuperTerminal 1 is the single largest multi-level air cargo terminal in the world boasting 3,500 container storage system positions, 10,000 box storage system positions.

The facility, with more than 2,200 highly trained staff, handles up to 3.5 million tons of air cargo each year on its 350,000-square-meter floor area.

SuperTerminal 1 is equipped with a comprehensive range of specialized cargo-handling facilities to cater for all cargo types, from temperature-controlled products to valuable goods to livestock.
