American parcel delivery giant FedEx Corp. announced it has expanded and enhanced its SenseAware service, a shipment-tracking device that provides customers near real-time access to their packages’ vital statistics along the supply chain.

Specifically, the improved monitoring platform gives customers greater international reach, the ability to use the service with carriers outside the FedEx network, and better technological features.

Initially available for shipments only in the U.S., SenseAware is now offered in Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and Singapore, with more destinations being eyed, FedEx said.

The service is also  now available on a growing list of air and ground carriers beyond the company’s network, including Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines main-line jets, third-party ground carriers, and private fleets.

In addition, the company has released the next generation of the device, SenseAware 2000, which offers more accurate near real-time location information, improved cellular connectivity, and longer battery life.

“SenseAware is all about information, and the innovative service increases visibility,  allowing customers to make better and more timely decisions,” said Carl Asmus, vice president of market development for FedEx.
