  • The vessel was delivered by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) to Taiwanese ocean liner operator Evergreen Marine recently
  • Ever Alot is nearly 400 meters long and 61.5 meters wide, and has a 33.2-meter-deep cargo hold. It will go into service on the East Asia-Europe and Far East routes

What could be the world’s largest container vessel has been delivered by Chinese shipbuilders to its owners, Taiwanese shipping company Evergreen Marine, according to a report on Marine Link on June 27 citing a CGTN video feature.

Evergreen has not officially announced the delivery of the vessel, which was featured on the CGTN channel accessible to the public on YouTube. The one-minute video did not mention when the delivery was made.

The newbuild, 24,000-TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) Ever Alot, was built by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), the report said.

The world’s largest container ship is nearly 400 meters long and 61.5 meters wide, with a deck area of 24,000 square meters, equivalent to 3.5 standard soccer fields, CGTN said. The ship’s cargo compartment is 33.2 meters deep, it added.

The ship was designed to use the latest hydrodynamic optimization technology so that it achieves high speed with low fuel consumption.

The new vessel will be put into service on the East Asia-Europe and Far East routes.

The American Bureau of Shipping-classified vessel is the seventh ship that Evergreen Marine has taken delivery of in its series of 13 Class A ultra-large containerships. The report said Ever Alot is also the first 24,000 TEU ship in the world.

Six previously delivered Evergreen A-class megaships are 23,992 TEU, all built by Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea.

Hudong-Zhonghua is still building nine 24,000 TEU ultra-large containerships, including three more Evergreen A-class vessels, according to the Marine Link report.
