Even as overcapacity and weak demand plague this trade lane, Evergreen Line plans to launch a new Asia-Northern Europe route this week.

The new CEM/CUS service will be operated as a joint venture with Hanjin Shipping, as Evergreen withdraws from its joint CEM/AEX1 service with CSCL, which will continue to provide the AEX1 service on its own, together with its slot charterers Zim and CMA CGM.

Nine ships will be deployed: five from Evergreen, two from Zim, and two from Hanjin. The vessels will have capacities ranging from 8,000 to 10,000 20-foot equivalent units.

Port rotation will be 10 weeks and include Shanghai, Ningbo, Yantian, Felixstowe, Hamburg, Rotterdam, Hong Kong, and Shanghai.
