Contecon Guayaquil S.A. (CGSA) is on pace to move 5% more cargo by end-2023, according to parent company International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI).

The business unit of ICTSI in Ecuador expects to end the year with more than 900,000 twenty-foot equivalent units. CGSA is the main entry point for much of Ecuador’s market.

The company responsible for managing operations at the Libertador Simon Bolivar Container and Multipurpose Terminal in the Port of Guayaquil recently celebrated a milestone, having handled 135 million tons of cargo since its inception 16 year ago.

“With more than $360 million invested since the beginning of our operation, we have created a world-class terminal with vast infrastructure, technology, and equipment, contributing to the economic development of the country and the generation of jobs. More than a port, we are the strategic partner that makes Ecuador go further,” Javier Lancha, CEO of CGSA, said in a statement.

It stands out for handling three Neo-Panamax ships at once due to its long 1,300-meter quay. Recent dredging increased the depth to 13.5 meters, allowing the terminal to accommodate the largest ships on the South American Pacific Coast.

CGSA has also added advanced scanners for security, a private LTE network for digital upgrades, and introduced the Port-to-Door platform in their CGSA App, offering real-time cargo tracking for customers.
