The Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) Silang Interchange is nearing completion and is set to open to motorists in September.

The newest Silang East-Aguinaldo Interchange exit of the 44.57-kilometer CALAX is now 91% complete, according to operator Metro Pacific Tollways (MPT) South.

The four-lane expressway will connect to the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX) in Kawit. Currently, its operational segments stretch from Mamplasan Rotunda in Biñan to Silang East Interchange.

Once opened, CALAX is expected to cater to 5,000 motorists daily, providing shorter access to Silang and Tagaytay in Cavite province from South Luzon Expressway (SLEX). It is expected to reduce travel time between CAVITEX and SLEX to only 45 minutes.

The construction of toll booths, road lights, signage and sound barriers, as well as preparations for the toll collection system are part of the next development phases of the interchange exit.

CALAX in a statement said it will further extend the expressway by 2024 to a total of 45 kms that will feature eight interchanges: Kawit, Daang Hari, Governor’s Drive, Aguinaldo Highway, Silang, Santa-Rosa-Tagaytay, Laguna Boulevard, Technopark and a toll barrier before SLEX.

The project has two segments: Laguna, a 10.7-km stretch between Mamplasan Entry and Santa Rosa-Tagaytay Interchange; and Cavite that spans 35 km from Kawit, Cavite and traverses the Imus Open Canal, Governor’s Drive, Dasmariñas, Aguinaldo Highway and Silang.

CALAX is a Public-Private Partnership Project with the Department of Public Works and Highways as the implementing agency. The private proponent is MPCALA Holdings Inc., a subsidiary of the MPTC Corp.
