The Philippine Ports Authority reported long queues at the Port of Calapan on Dec 28, leading to travel delays.

In an advisory, the agency said FastCat ships have not been able to sail to Calapan port as of evening of December 28 due to a damaged ramp the shipping line exclusively uses at Batangas port. Batangas port serves the Calabarzon region as a mother port, including for Calapan port.

The delay was also caused by emergency repair that had to be undertaken on the generator of MV Zenaida and a thruster malfunction in Starlite Jupiter, PPA said.

The Calapan local government is currently implementing a first-come, first-served system for boarding at the port.

PPA said 161 vehicles were in the port’s holding area on the evening of Dec 28. But early morning of Dec 28, eight roll on-roll off vessels and one fastcraft were already able to leave the port.

PPA has called for additional ships and early notification of cancelled trips so passengers do not accumulate at the port.
