The control and supervision of the Bureau of Customs’ X-Ray Inspection Project (XIP) has been returned to the Office of the Commissioner (OCOM) from the Intelligence Group (IG).

The XIP realignment was intended to “increase transparency in customs operations and fully assist the Bureau in its aim to modernize the XIP and its processes under the Customs Modernization Project…” BOC said in Customs Memorandum Order No. 01-2023 dated January 17.

The transfer took effect immediately, according to CMO 01-2023.

The XIP is a frontline border protection of BOC that is responsible for detecting prohibited, restricted, misdeclared, underdeclared, and illegal imports through its non-intrusive container inspection.

This is the fourth transfer of the unit, which was realigned from OCOM to the Enforcement Group in 2014, returned to OCOM in 2017, and transferred to IG in 2018.
