The Bureau of Customs-Ninoy Aquino International Airport (BOC-NAIA) intercepted P218 million worth of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) at the Paircargo warehouse in Pasay City.

Originally declared as “machinery muffler” from Zimbabwe, the shipment underwent strict profiling by the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service, x-ray screening by the X-Ray Inspection Project of the Port, K9-dog sniffing, and physical examination which led to the discovery of the concealed shabu inside the mufflers.

In collaboration with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group, the consignee was apprehended, and charges will be filed for violating the Customs Modernization Tariff Act and Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act (Republic Act No. 9165).

NAIA District Collector, Atty. Yasmin O. Mapa highlighted the effectiveness of the airport’s border security measures, which led to the identification and seizure of illegal drugs.

“This seizure represents the effective policies of the Bureau on border protection and underscores the effectiveness of the port’s customs officers,” Mapa said in a statement.

Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio praised the BOC-NAIA for its efforts in combating the entry of illegal drugs into the country.
