Board appointments at Singapore EDB and A*STAR revealed

Singapore_central_businessThe Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) of Singapore has announced changes to its board appointment at the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR).

These appointments took effect from February 1, 2015, said an MTI advisory.

MTI appointed four new members to the board of EDB and reappointed four board members.

Taking up their new posts are Mr. Chaly Mah Chee Kheong, chairman, Deloitte Singapore; Dr. Stefan Doboczky, member of the managing board, Royal DSM; Mr. Arunjai Mittal, member of the management board, Infineon Technologies AG; and Dr. Detlef A. Trefzger, CEO, Kuehne+Nagel International AG.

Reappointed EDB board members are Mr. Tan Pheng Hock, president and CEO, Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd; Mr. Vinod Kumar, managing director and group CEO, Tata Communications; Mr. Harish Manwani, independent director, former chief operating officer, Unilever; and Mr. Mark Nelson, president, Chevron International Products, Chevron International Pte Ltd.

Stepping down last January 31 were these board members after having completed their terms: Mr. Gautam Banerjee, senior managing director and co-chairman, Asia Operating Committee, Blackstone Group; Mr. Lothar Herrmann, president & CEO, Siemens Greater China; Mr. Gregory Lee, president and CEO, Samsung Telecommunications America and Samsung Electronics; and Mr. Toru Shimada, executive vice president and representative director, Rakuten Inc.

A*STAR board changes

On the other hand, appointment changes by MTI at A*STAR include the appointment to the board of Professor Chong Tow Chong, Provost, Singapore University of Technology and Design.

Reappointed were 11 board members. They include Professor Tan Chorh Chuan, president, National University of Singapore and deputy chairman, A*STAR; Professor Bertil Andersson, president, Nanyang Technological University; Professor Yitzhak Ben-Israel, chairman of Israel Space Agency; Mr. Bruce Brown, retired chief technology officer, Procter & Gamble; Professor Jonathan Knowles, Professor of Translational Medicine EPFL, Switzerland and Distinguished Professor of Personalised Medicine Institute of Molecular Medicine Finland, Helsinki, Finland; and Professor Sir Keith O’Nions, chairman, Cambridge Enterprise.

The others are Professor Sir John O’Reilly, director general, Department of Business, Innovation & Skills, UK, Chairman, NICC (Standards) Ltd. and Chairman and Science and Engineering Research Council, A*STAR; Mr. Ong Boon Hwee, chief executive officer, Stewardship Asia Centre Pte Ltd (SA); Professor Sir George Radda, Emeritus Professor of Molecular Cardiology, University of Oxford and chairman, Biomedical Research Council, A*STAR; Dr. Sun Shih-Wei, chairman, Sunterprise, Ltd.; and Dr. Tadataka Yamada, executive vice president & board member, Takeda Pharmaceuticals.

In turn, the following board members stepped down upon completion of their terms on January 31, 2015. Dr. Patrick Vallance, president, Pharmaceuticals R&D, GlaxoSmithKline; Prof. Tan Eng Chye, deputy president (academic affairs) and provost, National University of Singapore; Mr. Ng Wai Choong, deputy secretary (policy), Ministry of Finance; and Mr. Andrew Tan, chief executive, Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore.
