A.P. Moller-Maersk has divested two of its logistics sites in St. Petersburg and Novorossiysk to IG Finance Development Limited as a result of the company’s decision made in March last year to discontinue activities in Russia.

The inland depot in Novorossiysk is a facility of 28,750 square meters with a capacity of 1,500 containers (TEU) and specializes in handling commercial cargo such as grains from railway wagons to sea containers. The chilled and frozen warehouse in St. Petersburg has an area of 23,500 square meters and was established in 2020.

Karsten Kildah, chief commercial officer of Maersk, in a statement said: “We are pleased to have found a new owner of our two logistics sites in Russia and thereby execute on our decision to divest all our assets in the country. Throughout the divestment process, we have as a company felt a strong responsibility towards the remaining 50 employees at the two sites, and we are happy that they will be offered employment as part of the new setup.”

The divestment comes after Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022 in a major escalation of the Russo-Ukrainian War, which began in 2014. Many companies have since pulled out of Russia due to the conflict.

The group said the sale of both facilities had obtained regulatory approvals in the European Union and Russia.

Cyprus-based IG Finance Development Limited has made an agreement with Arosa, a large food importer in Russia, to operate the sites in St. Petersburg and Novorossiysk.

Maersk is one of the world’s biggest container shippers with a market share of around 17 percent. It operates in 130 countries and employs more than 100,000 personnel.
