7.5% less PH int’l cargo, mail volume recorded in 2013

ID-100240665International cargo and mail volume carried by 34 airlines servicing the Philippines contracted 7.5% to 278.544 million kilograms last year from 301.144 million kg in 2012.

Data from the Civil Aeronautics Board showed that of the total, inbound cargoes constituted 49.8% at 138.621 million kg. This is down 11.2% from the 156.034 million kg the airlines carried in 2012.

Outbound cargoes, on the other hand, accounted for 50.23% of the total with 139.923 million kg of air cargo, but were 3.6% lower than the 145.11 million kg in the previous year.

Flag carrier Philippine Airlines remained the carrier that flew the bulk of the total with 75.244 million kg of cargoes for 2013.

Hong Kong flag carrier Cathay Pacific was still second with 40.635 million kg while Singapore Airlines took the third place with 15.389 million kg, ousting AHK Air Hong Kong Ltd., which fell to seventh with  13.476 million kg.

Korean Air came fourth with 14.459 million kg and Taiwan-based Eva Air was fifth with 14.005 million kg of cargoes.

Coming in sixth was United Parcel Service, which handled 13.888 million kg.

Qatar Airways placed eighth with 11.422 million kg and Etihad Airways ninth with 11.171 million kg.

In 10th place was Thai Airways International with 10.622 million kg.

Rounding off the list were Japan Airlines, China Airlines, Air Micronesia, Emirates Air, All Nippon Airways, Delta Airlines, Gulf Air, Malaysia Airlines, Kuwait Airways, China Southern, KLM, Saudia, Qantas Airways, Jetstar Asia, Royal Brunei, Lufthansa, Continental Micronesia, Pal Express, Air Nuigini, Air China, Air Micronesia, Cargolux, and Asiana Airlines. ­­––Roumina M.
