The Port of Singapore processed more containers this August compared to a year ago, according to the latest figures from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Cargo throughput at the Singapore port reached 2.74 million 20-foot-equivalent units (TEUs) in August for a 4.5 percent growth over the 2.63 million TEUs posted for the same period a year ago.

But traffic declined on a month-on-month basis, down from the 2.77 million TEUS posted in July 2012.

For the year to August, boxes handled have totaled 21.15 million TEUs against the 19.85 million TEUs booked for the corresponding months of the previous year.
