CPCTCathay Pacific Services Limited (CPSL), the operator of Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal at Hong Kong International Airport, has announced the appointment of Kelvin Ko as chief executive officer with immediate effect.

Ko was chief operating officer of CPSL prior to taking up this new appointment. He was also one of the core members in the early stage of planning and design of the Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal.

Ko has over 20 years of experience in the air cargo industry. He held various senior management positions at the Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited, DHL Express, and SF Express.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial and manufacturing systems engineering from the University of Hong Kong. He is also a founding member of the logistics and transportation discipline of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers.

Earlier, in June, CPSL, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cathay Pacific Airways, announced its appointment as handling agent for AirAsia’s cargo operations and documentation.

CPSL began providing services for AirAsia on May 15, 2014.

”Cargo is one of the important revenue streams for AirAsia and it is crucial to have a partner which adds more value to our services. What we do is challenge the conventional perception that low-cost carriers (LCCs) are unsuitable for cargo due to the quick turnaround time. With CPSL on board, we look forward to quashing that perception further and changing the face of the cargo industry,” said Aireen Omar, CEO of AirAsia Berhad.

Then-CPSL CEO Algernon Yau added: “It is our goal to raise overall industry standards and support the growth of all customer airlines using the terminal’s services. We will continue to develop these services and help sustain Hong Kong’s competitiveness as the preferred airfreight hub in Asia.”
