Ever LuckyEvergreen Line has christened its latest 8,452-TEU L-type vessel at the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in South Korea, the 25th such vessel to be added to its operating fleet.

The new Ever Lucky will be deployed on Evergreen’s Far East-U.S. West Coast service.

The carrier took delivery of the first L-type vessel from Samsung Heavy Industries in July 2012, and concluded its 20 L-type projects with the shipbuilder with this latest delivery.

The group began a fleet renewal program in 2010, which includes a total of 30 L-type vessels, 20 of which have been ordered from Samsung Heavy Industries. The other 10 are coming from CSBC Corporation of Taiwan.

The remaining five newbuildings are being built by CSBC in Taiwan and will be delivered by the third quarter of 2015. While integrating the new ships into its fleet, Evergreen plans to return two dozen chartered vessels between this year and the next.

Evergreen said its L-types incorporate its “green ship” concept, being equipped with the latest technologies to cut fuel consumption and reduce the emission of greenhouse gases.

The carrier added that despite an increase in overall tonnage with the arrival of more vessels, it will be able to maintain the same level of total fuel consumption as last year because of the ships’ improved efficiency, which will see for the liner “very effective reduction in unit cost which in turn enhances Evergreen’s market competitiveness.”

Meanwhile, Seaspan Corporation has taken delivery of a new 10,000-TEU container ship, the Hanjin Tabul, from Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding Co.

The fuel-efficient vessel is the third of five 10,000-TEU such ships set for delivery this year, and will be chartered to Hanjin Shipping for a period of 10 years.

On the other hand, Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) will take delivery of Hyundai Victory, set for deployment on the G6 Asia-Europe Loop 7.

The Hyundai Victory is the fourth of five 13,100-TEU ships ordered in August 2011 from Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering. It comes two weeks after the delivery of Hyundai Drive two weeks ago. The last ship, the Hyundai Pride, is due to be delivered in late July.

The five newbuildings bring to 10 the ships of the same size delivered to the carrier since 2012 by the Hyundai Samho shipyard.
