G6 merges two Asia-USEC service lanes for winter

Hapag-LloydThe G6 Alliance announced it will temporarily combine two services in the Asia-U.S. East Coast (USEC) trades in response to the seasonal slackening of demand in the winter season.

The G6 Alliance’s winter program will combine the NYE and SCE services to provide the following port rotation: Xiamen, Kaohsiung, Hong Kong, Yantian, Shanghai (Yangshan), Pusan, Panama Canal, Manzanillo, Kingston, Savannah, Charleston, New York, Norfolk, Jacksonville, Kingston, Manzanillo, Panama Canal, Balboa, Pusan, and Xiamen.

The first sailing of the combined service will start with Hyundai Glory with an expected time of arrival (ETA) Xiamen on October 30.

The last sailings of the temporarily suspended NYE and SCE services are as follows:

NYE: Week 44 eastbound has an ETA Kaohsiung October 26 and week 48 westbound has an ETA Savannah November 24.

SCE: Week 43 eastbound will have an ETA Xiamen October 21 and week 48 westbound will have an ETA Savannah November 23.

The G6 Alliance members are APL, Hapag-Lloyd, Hyundai Merchant Marine, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Nippon Yusen Kaisha, and Orient Overseas Container Line.

Hapag-Lloyd’s rate hikes in November

Meanwhile, Hapag-Lloyd plans to increase its rates on the East Asia-U.S. and Canada routes.

Effective November 15, the following general rate increases (GRIs) will be implemented for all dry, reefer, flat-rack and open-top containers from East Asia to all U.S. and Canada destinations:

* US$510 per 20-foot standard container
* $600 per 40-foot standard container
* $675 per 40-foot high-cube container
* $760 per 45-foot container

East Asia is defined as the countries of Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, Philippines, and the Russian Pacific Coast Provinces.

Moreover, the German box liner intends to increase its rates effective November 1 for all cargoes and container types from East Asia (excluding Japan) to the Red Sea (Jeddah, Aqaba, Sokhna, Port Sudan, and Hodeidah) by $200 per twenty-foot-equivalent unit (TEU).

Hapag-Lloyd will also raise freight rates effective November 1 for all cargoes and all container types from East Asia (excluding Japan) to Arabian Gulf by $300 per TEU.

And effective November 3, it will raise rates for all cargoes and container types on the East Asia (excluding Japan)- North Europe/Mediterranean swing by $750 per TEU.

North Europe is comprised of the Northwest Continent, U.K., Scandinavia, Baltic, and European ports of Russia, while the Mediterranean consists of the West Mediterranean, East Mediterranean, Black Sea, and North Africa.

CMA CGM’s rate restoration plan

On the other hand, the CMA CGM group will levy a rate hike of US$850 per TEU on the Asia-North Europe loop effective November 1. The rate restoration program covers all shipments from Asian ports, including Japan, Southeast Asia, and Bangladesh to all North European ports, including the UK and the full range from Portugal to Russia.
