Cargo traffic at Penang Port in Malaysia is expected to increase by early next year with the planned construction of an automotive logistics hub and a motor production facility, both in mainland Penang.

The nearly US$200 million vehicle hub will be built in Seberang Prai by the PKT Logistics Group. It will provide end-to-end design, logistics solutions, customs brokering, contract logistics, and haulage and distribution management to automotive assemblers, reported Business Times.

A $63-million motor facility by Boon Siew Honda is also set for construction in Seberang Prai. It will serve as a one-stop center containing the company’s manufacturing plant, a service, parts and safety riding center, and a site for promoting motor sports development.

“The company is looking into producing high-end performance motorcycles and expanding its existing domestic sales to include Asean markets,” said Datuk Redza Rafiq, chief executive of Malaysia’s Northern Corridor Implementation Authority.
