The Bureau of Customs (BOC) revenue collection inched up in April to P68.274 billion, 0.1% higher than the P68.199-billion target and 3.97% more than the P65.669 billion recorded in the same month last year.

From January to April, BOC took in P281.902 billion, surpassing its P265.220-billion target by 6.29%, the customs bureau said in a statement. The four-month figure was also 10.89% higher than the P254.226 billion revenue recorded year-on-year.

BOC attributes the positive collection performance to a higher rate of assessment, which in turn is mainly due to improved valuation of non-oil importation.

The agency also recorded its highest daily collection for the year on April 28, amounting to over P7.51 billion.

“We will continue to uphold our commitment to transparency, accountability, and service excellence as we strive to meet our revenue targets and contribute to the growth and development of our country,” Customs commissioner Bienvenido Rubio said.

With “these promising results”, the customs bureau said it remains optimistic in achieving its revenue target for the rest of 2023.

For 2023, BOC has been tasked to collect P901.3 billion, up from the P721-billion target last year and the P862.929-billion actual collection, the agency’s highest annual collection to date.
