The Bureau of Customs (BOC)–Port of Clark turned over 1,634 grams of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) worth P11.274 million to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on December 27.

In a statement, the BOC said Port of Clark personnel discovered the illegal drugs in a shipment declared to contain shoes that arrived on November 17 from Kempton Park, South Africa.

BOC-Clark conducted an x-ray inspection and PDEA K-9 sweeping to confirm the possible presence of illegal drugs. Found were transparent packs of white crystalline substances wrapped in black duct tape and concealed inside the lining of five handbags.

Samples were taken and turned over to PDEA for chemical laboratory analysis which confirmed the substance as shabu, a dangerous drug under the Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Port of Clark collector John Simon issued a Warrant of Seizure and Detention against the shipment for violation of Sections 118 (g), 119 (d), and 1113 par. f, i & l (3 & 4) of R.A. No. 10863 in relation to R.A. No. 9165.

Vigilance among personnel and strong coordination with PDEA significantly improved the port’s drug seizures and apprehensions, said Simon.

On September 26, about P8 million worth of shabu was also seized by operatives of the BOC-Clark and PDEA.

A controlled delivery of 1.14 kilograms of the illegal drug led to the arrest of two claimants of the shipment in Bacoor City, Cavite on September 27.

The shabu was discovered in a shipment that was declared “unsolicited gift-baby soft toys for personal use” that arrived at Clark from Victoria St., London.
