About P8 million worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as “shabu” was seized on September 26 by operatives of the Bureau of Customs-Port of Clark (BOC-Clark) and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

A controlled delivery of 1.14 kilograms of the illegal drug led to the arrest of two claimants of the shipment in Bacoor City, Cavite on September 27, the BOC said in a statement.

The shabu was discovered in a shipment that was declared “unsolicited gift-baby soft toys for personal use” that arrived at Clark from Victoria St., London.

Physical examination was conducted after the package showed suspicious x-ray images, leading to the discovery of two pieces of headdress, a letter, and one yellow-green plastic bag containing two pieces of Star Wars Mandalorian plush toy.

Each of the items held three blue plastic bags containing white crystalline powder suspected to be shabu.

K-9 sniffing and field testing of the white crystalline powder confirmed the presence of shabu.

Samples of the powder that were turned over to PDEA for chemical laboratory analysis were confirmed to be shabu, a dangerous drug under Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2022.

A warrant of seizure and detention was issued by BOC-Clark district collector Alexandra Lumontad against the subject shipment for violation of various sections of RA 10863, or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act, in relation to Section 4 4 (Importation of Dangerous Drugs and/or Controlled Precursors and Essential Chemicals) of RA 9165.

In the first quarter of 2022, BOC had seized a total of P1.53 billion worth of illegal drugs.
